Best Surfboard Bike Racks To Get You Moving

The Best Surfboard Bike Racks for Longboards, Shortboards, E-Bikes & Mopeds

Getting to the beach is a huge part of surfing. While a lot of crew drive, grommets or people wanting to avoid parking often look to the humble bicycle. Riding a bike to the beach used to be an ordeal - wrestling your board under your arm or using old-school upright racks that acted like sails. Steering safely was a nightmare. Forget it if you rode a longboard.

Moved By Bikes have developed a range of surfboard bike racks that turn your pushy into a beach-going machine. There are options for shortboards, longboards, e-bikes, mopeds, and even cargo bikes.

If you’re the kind of person who prefers pedal power (or a Moped) to get to the surf, here’s a breakdown of the best surfboard racks for your setup:

Best Surfboard Bike Rack For Shortboards

This is the Moved By Bikes go-to rack. It’s quick to install, features a push-button quick release system for the rack arms, and can carry boards up to 8’0” in length.

The design is super clean - made from rust-resistant stainless steel and aluminium so it won’t seize up in salty air. Because it mounts to the seatpost, this shortboard rack will fit most standard bikes. Fits shortboards up to 8ft long.

Best Bike Rack for Longboards

Long, thick, wide. That’s what makes a longboard great in the water - but awkward to carry on a bike. The Longboard Rack from Moved By Bikes sorts that out with longer arms and adjustable spacing to suit your board.

It attaches to two points on your bike:

  • Rear: either the seatpost (the tube your seat is attached to - works with most bikes). It also attaches to rear cargo racks.

  • Front: Either your handlebars or, on some e-bikes, small built-in screw holes on the frame (called 'frame bosses') - usually where front racks or baskets mount. If your bike doesn’t have those, the front arm can often still be mounted using clamps.

It’s solid, stable, and can carry boards up to 12kg. Made from tough stainless steel and aluminium, built to last.

Best Bike Rack for Mopeds

It’s not just push bikes that are great for getting to the beach on. Anyone who’s zipped around Bali on a moped with a board strapped to the side, knows the freedom of weaving through traffic and pulling up in pole position.

The Moped Rack fits common scooter or moped tubular cargo racks and handles both short and longboards. It’s also the only moped rack with fully removable arms, making it safer and sleeker when you’re riding without a board.

Here’s where it can attach:

  • Rear cargo rack: Most scooters have a metal rack or grab bar behind the seat - that’s perfect for mounting the rack arms.

  • Front cargo rack or basket: If your bike has one, you can mount the front rack arm here too.

  • No front rack? No problem: You can just mount both arms to the rear of the bike. This works great for boards around 7–8 feet, and even longer boards if the arms are spaced out wide enough.

  • Kid rails or extra frame bars: Some bikes have extra metal tubing for passengers or cargo - the rack can clamp to those too.
