Watching Episode 1 Stab In The Dark with Ethan Ewing got us so stoked. It was a “maybe” for a long time. Getting Ethan locked in came with so many what ifs? We got it pretty easy, but could still feel the angst as the details came together. The boards were flown in from two places, so we pulled a team coffin from CREATURES USA and one from here in Oz. We added heaps of Ethan’s go-to traction, leashes, a few Day Use bags, some board socks, and more to properly support Eth with his insane quiver of blue-railed beauties.
The location was confirmed and tickets bought. Once the planes left, and we got confirmation the gear was in the plane’s belly, things went silent. The first email updates came in from the Stab crew, including the odd frame grab. Anticipation began to mount. That was months ago.
The wait was worth it.
Episode 1 was so damn entertaining. Ethan’s that good he can get 9s sitting down.

EPISODE 1 PHOTOS & FRAMEGRABS
Ethan loves consistency in his gear, which is why he is such a fantastic candidate for Stab In The Dark. To keep Ethan focused on the task, we needed to make sure the boards arrived in pristine condition, and provide plenty of gear he knew he could rely on. Here's what we sent...
You might be wondering what those giant bags are that fit 8 boards? They’re team-only customs made for our elite crew who regularly travel with huge quivers. For 99% of surfers, a Multi Tour, Quad or Triple is plenty.
For this epic week-long strike mission, we also sent over two Doubles, a few Day Use bags, and a bunch of Aerolite board socks, which are a major team favourite.
Keep an eye out for episode 2 of Stab In The Dark. There’s SO much more to come…
Traction and leashes are like salt and pepper for the main course. Boards feel bland without them. Applied right, you create something not only complete, but tasty too. Ethan has 3 different models of traction, each unique in their own way. He used his Signature black charcoal panel pad on the squash tails and PROTO™ Pin Tails on the step ups.
Choosing leashes was easy. Ethan almost exclusively uses RELIANCE 2.0 Medium and Standard Duty leashes. That’s what he got. No need for Lite Duty pool cords or Heavy Duty monsters at this rodeo.
Ethan loves the Travel Surf Kit. Check out the clip for some insight to what he puts in it. We added the Flexi-Tub to keep his wax sand free each day, plus some essential tie downs and lots of SexWax.
